Can you shoot off your tripods?Yes for sure! Now, we are very clear with our customers that we do not make tripods solely for shooting; our goal is to make an all around tripod that is great for hunting - which performs its main role in glassing, and then for shooting. That being said, we have shot 100's of rounds off of our tripod models without issue, but they are not made as durable as a true 5lb+ shooting tripod - because you have to pack them around in the mountains and weight is also a concern. The Backcountry Lite Tripod is going to be great for those on extended backcountry trips where weight is the #1 concern. I personally carry this tripod instead of a bipod for mountain hunting situations. With the included short center column you lose some versatility and height for glassing, but you can shoot prone as low as 5.5" off the ground, or as high as 37.5" for seated and kneeling shots (both of those assume the use of the Backcountry Lite Ball Head in conjunction with the tripod. The Frontcountry will be an ideal all around hunting tripod for those shorter trips where weight isn't the #1 goal, but instead features and stability take precedent. The Frontcountry tripod has a center column that can be separated in the field with the built in hex key in the weight hook. Simply remove the weight hook and disassemble the tripod center column (reference this video for how to - https://www.instagram.com/p/C8cCDqMJd88/ ) With the short center column on the Frontcountry tripod you can shoot prone as low as 8" off the ground, or as high as 58" for seated, kneeling and even standing shots shots (both of those assume the use of the Frontcountry Ball Head in conjunction with the tripod). Please reach out if you have questions on which model is best for you.

How do I remove the lower section of the center column on the Frontcountry Tripod? For removing the lower section of the center column to use it as a short center column - first remove the ball head (loosen small set screw, then unthread ball head). The you need to remove the top plate of the center column, there is a small set screw perpendicular to the axis of the center column. Loosen this and then you can unthread the top plate. Then insert allen key (or use built in allen key in weight hook) down into the center of the center column and there is a small nut the allen key fits into and you unthread in 3-5 turns and the lower part of the center column will come off. Then reassemble! Watch this video for a visual - https://www.instagram.com/p/C8cCDqMJd88/

How do I mount the Ball Head to the Tripod so it wont unthread? For mounting the ball head to the tripod - simply thread the ball head onto the top of the tripod. Lock down the panning base and tighten the ball head on as much as you can. Then raise the center column up, and on the bottom side of the top plate of the center column there is a small set screw. Tighten this set screw so that it locks the ball head into place, and then you are good to go! For this you can use the included allen keys that come with the tripod in a small bag, or on the Frontcountry tripod if you remove the weight hook from the bottom of the tripod it also has a built in allen key!
